Private-label procurement
Private-label laboratory glassware: a procurement checklist for distributors
A private-label project needs both a technical product specification and a controlled brand-presentation specification.
Private label has two approval tracks
Treating logo printing as the entire project leaves important questions unresolved around product class, item code, packaging, documentation and traceability. The technical specification and presentation specification should be confirmed separately and then tied together in the quotation.
Technical specification
- Product family and exact item code
- Capacity or size
- Class or applicable standard where relevant
- Stopper, cap, stopcock, joint or other configuration
- Clear or amber format where applicable
- Sales-pack quantity and total order quantity
- Testing, calibration or certificate scope where required
These fields should remain tied to reviewed product evidence. Unsupported specifications should be confirmed before quotation rather than inferred.
Brand-presentation specification
- Logo and artwork files
- Print colour and placement
- Product label requirements
- Carton artwork and shipping marks
- Barcode or QR placement
- Language and market-specific presentation
A sample or artwork proof can be useful before volume supply, depending on product, quantity and commercial arrangement.
Traceability and certificates
If QR-linked documents are part of the programme, specify what the QR is intended to retrieve and whether identification is by batch or individual item. A certificate-verification workflow should not imply calibration or conformity beyond the actual record supplied.
Packaging is part of the commercial specification
Fragile glassware requires planned inner protection and cartons. Distributor orders may also need branded cartons, barcodes, labels, case quantities or pallet rules. These choices influence freight, handling and replenishment, so they should be agreed before the final commercial offer.
Prepare an RFQ that can be compared
For each line item, give product code, capacity, quantity, technical requirement and presentation requirement. Add destination and requested documentation. This lets options be compared on the same scope instead of comparing headline piece prices that exclude different services.
